How do I get a .tv and create my own video community?

If you are not currently a ChannelMe.tv member, you can purchase your .tv domain and create a video community directly at Magnify.net. I'm a Channel Owner, what will happen to my channel and content?

ChannelMe will be deactivating all channels on Wednesday, July 1, 2009. Prior to this date, users have the opportunity to do the following:

  1. Download their data from their existing channel, learn more.
  2. Go to Magnify.net http://www.magnify.net/affiliate/channelme and establish their new channel
  3. Users will then receive instructions from Magnify on how to change your DNS settings and point your existing tv name to your new Magnify channel

I'm a Channel Owner, how do I notify and inform my members on the changes to my channel? How do I communicate with my members?

Members of your channel will be re-directed to your new site once your auto-forwarding has been enabled. Learn more about auto-forwarding.

What will happen to my .tv domain name?

Your .tv domain registration will remain unchanged and you can continue to manage your .tv registration through your current service provider.

When will the channels be deactivated?

All channels will be deactivated on July 1, 2009.


How do I transition my channel personalization and/or styling files?

To download your Background image, header image follow these steps:

  • Internet Explorer: right click on background image, select "Save Background As…" to download
  • Firefox: right click on background, select "View Background Image", then right click on image, select "Save Image As…" to download
  • Mac users: same as above, just <control> + <click> instead of right click

To download Avatars,

  • Internet Explorer / Firefox: click on avatar image in upper left "About" box; right click on larger avatar image in "Profile" box, select "Save Image As…" (Firefox) or "Save Picture As…" (Internet Explorer) to download
  • Mac users: same as above, just <control> + <click> instead of right click

How do I download Text content?

Blog posts, Private messages, Comments, Forum messages, About essay + interests can be downloaded by navigating to each area where text content is located, copy it to the clipboard, and paste it into its new location.

How do I download my Image content?

For Photos, navigate to Photo Albums, click on an album, right click (control-click on Mac) on individual images, select "Save Image As…" to download

How do I download my Video content?

To download Video embed codes – navigate to video content; click on "Embed Code" link beneath video; copy embed code and paste into its new location.

How do I download my Widgets?

To download Widget embed codes, navigate to widget, look for "Share" or "Get Widget" button (exact name varies by widget creator). Click on it, copy embed code to clipboard, then paste it into its new location.

Which content cannot be migrated / downloaded?

The following content will not be available for download:

  • Friends
  • Members
  • Favorite channels
  • Previously uploaded videos
  • Tags
  • Playlists


How do I change the settings on my .tv domain name? And, where do I go to manage my domain name?

You will continue to manage your .tv domain name through your current service provider. The transition to Magnify.net will have no impact to the management and registration of your .tv domains.

How do I set up auto-forwarding on my .tv domain?

You will continue to manage your .tv domain name through your current service provider. The transition to Magnify.net will have no impact to the management and registration of your .tv domains.

How do I redirect my domain and/or point my domain to another provider?

  • Login to your account located with your current service provider, hover over the menu option DOMAINS
  • Click My Domains
  • Click on the domain name you wish to work with (this takes you to the domain control panel)
  • Click on Host Records
  • Go to the www record and set the Record Type to CNAME.
  • In Address field enter www.channelme.tv
  • Now go to the @ record and set the Record Type to A (Address)
  • In the Address field enter 8.5.0.183.
  • Click "save" at the bottom right of the page.
  • Your domain will now be pointing at your Channel! It may take a few hours for these changes to propagate across the Internet.
